That’s right … this is real rap.
Not that materialistic, narcissistic, fake gangster, ringtone crap that’s polluting the airwaves, the Viacom-owned outlets, and the Clear Channel-owned outlets, The essence of what true rap, true hip-hop is supposed to be.
And the thing is, songs like this used to be the norm.
Grandmaster Flash, KRS-One, Eric B and Rakim, Ice T, Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest. They were rebels who spoke uncomfortable truths a lot of people don’t want to talk about even in 2012.
But they weren’t considered “commercial” by the record companies who ruled the industry. You wouldn’t see Public Enemy on a Saturday morning cartoon.
